There is four minutes left in the game Utah State goes down the field in a Minute and scores and they makes the two point conversion. The crowd is going wild, they set up for the onside kick and make a beautiful one as number six jumps up and gets the ball. Utah State has the ball and are ready to march down the field. Oh wait what is that its a flag, offsides on Utah State! The crowd boos the coach is arguing, they put the replay on the megatron and they have every right to boo, and argue. There is no offsides! once again the ref makes a call that ends the comeback, that ends the hype. Now it is true the Aggies should not have been in that situation, they have not learned how to win yet. This i understand. My thing is look how much power the refs have. Example even though I cant stand the chargers, last year the umpire makes the wrong call on a fumble and the Broncos win the game, which is sweet but once again it came down to the ref. I just think that they should make it possible even if from the booth to look at a penilty and overturn it. Maybe one day it will happen.
So now the question is who is going to win the world Series?

I hear you Dave, most high level sports have started using instant replay. major league baseball needs to get with the times and do the same except for balls and strikes - that would take way too long. but fair vs. foul and home runs should be reviewed via IR when it is a close call, just to make sure they get it right.
Although I kind of sympathize with the refs too, having reffed quite a few bball games in my day. It really is a thankless job, and they are only human and will make mistakes. As long as they aren't REALLY bad mistakes, I tend to cut them some slack when I can.
So currently in the mlb, instant replay is used to determine foul and fair balls for homeruns, but that's it. I think it could be used for some things, but I think if it was ever implemented that coach's should have a limited number of challenges just like football, with the top office doing official reviews on obvious close calls.
In terms of the NFL, there are a few penalties I think she be reviewable. One is what Dave brought up, offsides on a kickoff. Another is pass interference. Pass interference can result in anywhere from 10 to 60 yard penalties. If you have a quarterback throw the ball 60 yards and it's called pass interference, the ball is placed at the spot of the foul, about a 60 yard penalty. I think if you're going to make that kind of a decision, it should be reviewed because that is a pretty hefty penalty.
i didn't realize they use IR for homre runs already, my bad (shows you how much baseball I watch). But I did see quite a few ump mistakes on SportsCenter on stuff like tagging base runners, and fair vs. foul balls in the field of play that they clearly got wrong.
And I have to disagree with you on the PI reviews for football. Think of how long that would take, how many pass plays are there per game. It would drag the games out too long, and there are just way too many close calls that could arguably go either way, so IR wouldn't be all that helpful in that regard. It's a pretty subjective call. You hate to see guys get penalized for long yards when they truly didn't interfere with the WR, but I just don't think it happens enough to justify using IR for PI calls.
