I have to comment on this game. I grew up a die-hard Packers fan. My dad was a packers fan from the Bart Starr and Vince Lombardi days. Brett Favre starting playing for the packers when I was 6 in 1992. He was the face of the packers for as long as I can remember. I was cheering for them when they won the superbowl, when it was like 0 degrees at lambeau field in December or January, even to his last game as a Packer against the Giants in 2007. My little brother is the biggest Packers and Brett Favre fan you'll ever meet. So you can imagine this has been tough for me to know who to route for. My own personal opinion is that the Packers screwed Brett Favre when they told him he could be 2nd string to Aaron Rodgers. Even though he's been so back and forth so many times, it doesn't bother me. I love this guy, and I would argue he is the best quarterback ever to play the game. For me, I no longer have players or coaches that tie me to the packers. When Brett left, so did I. Last year I was a big Jets fan, and this year I'm an even bigger Vikings fan. But not just because of Brett Favre, but also because of this guy.
This is Jared Allen back in the day when he played for, that's right, the ISU Bengals out of Pocatello. This guy was huge when I was playing high school football, and is arguably the best player ever to come out of ISU and even the best defensive
player in the NFL right now. He posted 4.5 sacks tonight, the highest number of sacks that Monday Night Football has ever seen. Oh yea, he also recorded a forced fumble and a safety. This guy is an animal and what does he attribute all his success to? His mullet. Jared Allen makes it even easier for me to make the transition to the Vikings. There's also Adrian Peterson, one of the best running backs in the NFL right now, and a great rookie receiver out of Gator nation Percy Harvin. I dare say that the Vikings have enough talent to make it to the superbowl and win. They are now one of 5 teams in the NFL to have an undefeated record, the most teams that have ever been 4-0 at this point in the season. The other teams are the Colts, Giants, Saints, and the Broncos. I can't wait for this season to unfold, and hopefully to see the Vikings come out with the championship in the end. Then maybe Brett Favre could retire going out on top. But with Brett Favre, you just never know.

Great game! I don't remember the last time Favre played THAT good. He did not look like someone who is turning 40 later this week. You've gotta feel good for a guy that got shafted by the club who was carried by him for 16 seasons and then comes out and smokes them for 250 yds. and 3 TDs.
I owe my fantasy victory to Jared Allen. He is a beast, and I like him even more know knowing that he played his college ball for ISU. Even though he was playing against a really banged up O-line, he had one heckova stat night!
Adrian Peterson - He is an awesome running back, don't get me wrong, and he's got the total package: speed, strength, stamina, etc. That said, I'm not ready, like so many other people seem to be, to crown him as 'the greatest running back in the league.' Why? He leads the league in fumbles since 2007 (his rookie year). Last night, he did not impress me at all. He had a TD run from 2 yards out, but that was about all he did. He had a couple 10 yard runs, but I think his yards-per-carry ended up around 3 on the night. Nothing spectacular about that. Also, he let Clay Matthews totally rip the ball out of his hands and take it back for six. You've gotta protect the rock. And until you do, you shouldn't be labeled the greates RB in the league. He's also a Sooner, which doesn't earn him any sympathy points from me :) So I'm glad you said "one of the best backs" in the league. I agree with you there.
I think Mike Tirico has a man crush though when he said "we'll be watching the greates running back of all time tonight." I almost jumped out of my chair when he said that. You're going to put Peterson ahead of Jim Brown, Emmitt Smith, Walter Payton and Barry Sanders in his 3rd season? You're out of your mind.
The Vikings are dangerous though. If Favre keeps up this level of play, teams will not be able to stack the box, and when they don't, Peterson should have some huge runs. Their defense is just nasty. I think the NFC Championship game between them and the Saints will be better than the Super Bowl this year. Drew Brees is playing out of his skull and their defense has stepped up big time this year. It should be an awesome season!
I know, why am I commenting on this blog? But I actually did watch the game last night and enjoyed it. Probably cause it was pure entertainment watching Devin freak out about his fantasy game. :) Either way it was a good game. I couldn't believe how many sacks the Vikings had. Crazy! My only bad comment on the night is Brett Favre's jersey. It is way too big! Maybe he isn't comfortable with his almost 40 year old body and doesn't want to show it off. I think he needs a new jersey stat. He played good, but looked silly.
Melanie, I am glad you commented because everyone is welcome. I think Favre's jersey is loose so he can have more range of motion on his throws, but that's just a guess. But I liked how you threw a medical term into your comment.
Last night was certainly not Adrian Peterson's night. But did you see the game where they played the Browns? Click on this link to see this run. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lrhBXbVmrWc Seriously this guy is way sick, where sick = amazing. I thought best ever was a serious exaggeration, but he's definitely one of the best right now in the league. This team is definitely fun to watch. With that being said I think Aaron Rodgers had a pretty good game, but could have had an even better game with a decent o-line.
I did see that run against the Browns. He totally manhandled their D, but then again, it was the BROWNS, the doormat of the NFL. I'd be more impressed if he did that to, say, Ray Lewis or Brian Urlacher. But hey, it was a nice run. I'll crown him "the best in the league" when he cuts down on those fumbles.
Haha Melanie, I'm totally with you on the Favre jersey! I think he looks like a little kid when he's got both hands in the air cheering when they make a touchdown :). It looks pretty funny, but I must say I do love Brett Favre. He just reminds me of a little kid loving the game. I did feel bad for Rodgers with how little he was protected. I think the Vikings have just an overwhelmingly better O-line (that play where Favre had a ton of time to make the throw from that pocket) and their defense was incredible.
I found it interesting that the first 2 touchdowns the Packers made were immediately after the Vikings TD's. It was like a response.
Oh, and Adrian Peterson is pretty good, but I agree he needs to work on his fumbles. Also, I think that commercial is way weird where he looks like a human basketball...weird. Haha well that's my female input to the game. I thought it was really fun to watch (I even watched it while Creighton was gone to work :)
hellow everyone i have finally gotten off my duff and it is time to talk sports. Everyone can agree that farve is the best. he is old and still looks like a kid. What i want to comment on is look at my Broncos. Who would have ever thought that they would be 5-0 especially with orton running the show. The game on sunday rocked when they beat Brady and the Patriots. Thank goodness, dont like them. The broncos have come together like white on rice. Look at the rookie running back and what he has accomplished. I must also give a shout out to Austin Collie, He is really starting to make a name for himself and I know where he went to school but hey it is nice to see that BYU can produce something other than crybabies :) Any way i will comment more at a later time
Hey man, finally a sweet blog. I'm much too late to comment on the Packers Vikings game, however Favre does impress. He's be more impressive if he was throwin the ball to my man Miles Austin and taking the Cowboys to the Superbowl! And yes Adrian Peterson is very very good... but better than a threesome of Barber, Felix Jones, and Tashard Choice? Just a nice thought. Anyway, do what you gotta do to let me in on this thing.
