This was a particulary great week as is every week in college football. There were a few disappointments (USU losing to BYU), a few upsets (Miami over Oklahoma, Michigan State over Michigan, and others), and some amazing plays. The first thing I wanted to mention though was a ridiculously obsurd penalty called on Georgia and then on LSU for excessive celebration. I don't know if any of you saw that, but that was a game changing penalty for no apparent reason. You can see a video for it here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ghaj231-IXI. (Someone needs to teach me how to post youtube clips directly to the blog.) The other thing I wanted to mention, what was Bob Stoops thinking when he had Oklahoma kick a fieldgoal against Miami when they were down by 4 with only a few minutes left? I know it was 4th and 11 but seriously, what does kicking a field goal in that situation do for you? Make you lose by 1 instead of 4 I guess. Unbelievable.
Key matchup for this next week.
I cannot wait for the LSU vs. Florida game. This is set up to be one of the best games this year. I don't think LSU can completely match up with Florida, but we're finally going to see Florida's first real test this year. Tim Tebow suffered a concussion in the last game, but with two weeks off you better believe he'll put himself into that game whether he's feeling 100% or not.
The other game I'm looking forward to is Virginia Tech vs. Boston College. VT narrowly avoided an upset today against Duke. Boston College is a better team in my opinion than Duke, and could pull off an upset. Virginia Tech currently has a win over Miami, who just beat Oklahoma tonight. This improves VT's resume, and if they continue to win they'll definitely be considered as a contender for the national championship.

Great post! I have to agree with you about those ticky tack penalties in the LSU-Georgia game. The refs need to let the kids play. Of course they're going to be excited if they score a go-ahead TD with a minute to go!
I say that as long as they don't do something ridiculous like pull a Sharpie out of their sock and sign the football (T.O.) or pull a cell phone out of the goal post pad and call someone (Joe Horn) or put on a "future hall of fame" jacket (Ochocinco), or something that truly is taunting and disrespectful (pretending to slit your throat, for example), then don't call them for a penalty. Let the kids celebrate. A similar penalty really DID cost Washington the game against BYU last year, remember?
OU - I was SO happy to see them lose last night. There is no team I HATE more than the Sooners. When was the last time Stoops won a big game? Him and Jim Tressel are VERY overrated coaches, in my opinion. USC rolled right over them in the 05 championship game. The Boise State upset in the fiesta bowl three years ago was the best college football game I've ever seen. West Virginia KILLED them in the BCS game the year after that, and they didn't exactly have a strong showing against the Gators last year either. I hate the Sooners, and now, with 2 losses, they should be out of the BCS picture altogether (I hope!) Did I mention how much I hated the Sooners? :)
Tim Tebow is an animal, and I have no doubt he'll suit up against LSU. I think it will be close, but Florida should pull it off. I'm not sure though, they didn't look good against Tennessee (who lost to UCLA and Auburn last night) when Tebow was healthy, so who knows what will happen.
I think this is the Longhorn's year. It's Cotl McCoy's year for the Heisman. After getting HOSED last year by the Big XII's gay rules about BCS rankings (UT beat OU by 10 head-to-head and both teams had one loss, but UT gets the shaft), UT is playing with a chip on their shoulder, and I love it. They should go all the way. Hook em!
By the way Creighton, why are we not in a fantasy football league together? I say we should do one next year with family.

Why in the world is Oklahoma still ranked in the top 25? They came in today on the AP poll at 18. Now let's talk about this. Oklahoma is a 2-2 ball club with their only wins coming over Idaho State (guys I am from Pocatello, ISU is HORRIBLE, like consecutive winless years, get blown out by Weber state, SUU, all these other bad teams,) and Tulsa (a marginal team out of conference USA.) These two wins cannot justify a national 18 ranking. I say get Oklahoma out of the top 25 until they start beating good teams. I hope UT blows them out in a couple weeks. UT should definitely win the big 12 this year, and go to the national championship. As long as they aren't upset along the way, I think they'll face the SEC champ (Florida or Alabama, possibly Auburn but that's doubtful,) in the national championship. I can't see any other outcome at this point. USC's loss to Washington took them out, plus I don't think they are that good this year. I can't see LSU beating Florida after that near miss to Georgia yesterday, so it's looking to be UT vs Florida or Alabama.
The only reason they're still in the top 25 (not that I agree with the voters' reasoning) is because those losses came with last year's Heisman watching from the sidelines. But still, who have they beaten? Cupcakes! OU is very overrated and Stoops is overpaid.
